A proposal to examine
Our society equates money with security and happiness. This leads to a life of endless accumulation, because the feeling of "enough" is never reached. This is a core sign of a deluded (भ्रमित) life. This workshop makes a critical distinction between Wealth (धन) and Prosperity (समृद्धि). Wealth is the accumulation of material things. Prosperity, however, is a feeling of resolution that comes from having more than is required for your physical needs. The key insight is this: our physical needs are limited and can be identified. When we identify our needs and produce or acquire more than that, we have the feeling of prosperity. A person with ten crores can feel deprived, while a person with one lakh can feel prosperous, if they have the right understanding of their needs. Prosperity is a state of mind, not a number in an account. Money (अर्थ) is merely a tool for facilitating the exchange of physical goods; it is not the source of happiness.
ReflectionThe real question is not "how much money is enough?" but "have I correctly identified my needs?" Once needs are identified, the path to feeling prosperous becomes clear and achievable.
